My name is Richard C. Silvestri and people often call me Dick and even Dickie from my youth or if southerners. I first sat in a kayak at eight and was petrified because I could barely swim two strokes without swallowing the ocean.  Two years later I saw Kayaks down the Nile on TV which was about two explorers kayaking you know where.   In my early twenties my uncle who was a erstwhile sailor in Miami who served in the Coast Guard in the South Pacific during The War, built his own kayak which I got to try out.  He never finished it which was normal for him.  He really was a great guy who lived until age 95.  In 1985 I began surf fishing in earnest and eventually bought a kayak to fish off the beach. Continue Reading…
